Welcome

Meow and welcome to Sonoma Cat Rescue! Our mission is focused on saving and improving the lives of feral, or what we also refer to as community cats in Sonoma, through rescue, spay/neuter, adoption and other community programs.

Our Goal: To reduce cat population (or reduce the number of unwanted, homeless cats) by spay/neuter, to increase the number of adoptions through socialization and improve the overall welfare of the community cats through Trap Neuter Spay (TNR) programs, to create a volunteer network and a partnership with other local organizations.

Although Cat Rescue is our primary mission, we help people find local resources for animal rescue service organizations. Often, dogs and other wildlife are in situations that require immediate aid and Sonoma Cat Rescue will be there to help.

Our Mission

Trap, Neuter & Return

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a compassionate and scientifically backed method for managing feral cat populations. It involves humanely trapping outdoor cats, having them spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and then returning them to their original location. This process halts the breeding cycle, stabilizes colonies, and improves the cats’ health and behavior.

Health

Regular monitoring allows our caregivers to spot signs of illness or injury, and many participate in Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs to prevent overpopulation and reduce disease spread. Vaccinations and parasite control are also key components of care, ensuring feral cats live healthier, safer lives within their communities

Food for cats

Caring for the health of feral cats involves a compassionate, long-term commitment to improving their well-being while respecting their independence. Our volunteers and caretakers provide clean food and fresh water daily, especially during extreme weather. Shelter is essential—simple insulated boxes or safe hiding spots help protect them from the elements.

Margarita

Meet Margarita, a sweet and cuddly cat whos' come out of her shell while she's been with us. Initially, she was a bit shy and wary of strangers, but now she's often at the door excited for a visit. We don't know her history, as she was found taped into a box with her kittens. That that she's comfortable, she's all about getting her cheek scratches, play time and snacks! She's quite smart and active, so she would do well with someone who wants a kitty to enliven their household with her playful and sweet nature. Margarita would do best in a quiet household as an only kitty where she can be the center of attention. Adopt Margarita and discover the fun and joy of bringing a kitty like her into your home.

Cats’ cradle: Sonoma a home to feral felines

In dark, wooded corners all over the Valley, populations of feral cats live and make do. They hunt for their supper and sleep when they can, alert for other predators likewise on the hunt. It’s eat or be eaten in the wild outdoors, and many of these feral cats live foreshortened lives.
